2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

2.11 grams.   Eucrite-unbr

TKW 8 kg. Fall observed 9 July 2014, Guelmim-Es-Semara, Morocco.

The MetBul has this description:
Glassy black fusion crust with translucent patches revealing plagioclase grains beneath. Broken surface shows mm-size white plagioclase and honey brown pyroxene grains, also some scattered mm-size opaque grains. Friable.

John writes:
Purchased this nice cut fragment from Fabien Kuntz in August 2014 after his trip to fall site.

Noticed some nice crust spikes on it when I purchased it, and found that one of the crust spikes had drooped or folded over on itself to form a LOOP of crust! Closeups are at 20x and 40x.

I am trying very hard not to break it by not messing with it. :)

Fantastic specimen John , with superb features that serve as a reminder of just how spectacular some of these Eucrite stones must have looked at various flight stages prior to impact and subsequent weathering!
