8.55 gram slice. LL6
TKW 25 kg. Observed fall 22 November 2004, Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz, Morocco.
Bernd writes:
I got this 8.55 gram slice of Benguerir in 2005 as a gift from Aziz Habibi via Marcin Cimala from Poland.
The meteorite fell on November 22, 2004, near the city of Benguerir, Morocco, and its total mass was
estimated by Chennaoui Aoudjehane H. et al. (2006) to be between 40 and 80 kg whereas the MetBul
says the estimated TKW is about 25-30 kg.
Eyewitnesses heard a thunderous noise before objects fell
from the sky at high speed and hit the ground with a muffled noise. The stones were cold to the touch.
The fusion crust is described as dull black and the interior is light grey. Chondrules are hardly visible.
Small FeNi grains seem to be evenly distributed – at least in my slice. |
