Bernd writes:
A translucent moldavite from Netolice Brusná in Southern Bohemia. Moldavites are natural glasses formed during the event that produced the 24 km Ries crater in Southern Germany. The color of moldavites ranges from pale green to brown. They consist of materials derived from very shallow, near-surface sediments and soils, the so-called Upper Freshwater Molasse sediments (Obere Süßwasser Molasse in German). In this specimen you can see pits and grooves formed by chemical corrosion but moldavite morphology was also influenced by mechanical abrasion.

Great use of the scale cube as a prop! I'm probably the only one who sees a vivid camel's head coming from the 'Obere S**wasser Molasse' :-)

Very Funny John D.!! I know Bernd, I am quite sure it is the real stuff, he was collecting way before the Chinese ever dreamed of making fake moldavites (among other things). Very pretty Bernd.

nice Moldavite presentation Bernd... and to be clear, to Me it does NOT look like it was Chinese-made, or it is a piece of Sea Glass, or a polished piece of a 7-Up bottle. :/
