2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

Luther writes:
This is a 19.2g Winchcombe CM2 meteorite, found on the 25th March 2021 by Chris Casey and Luther Jackson.

A small dark dusty mark on a driveway in Bishop’s Cleeve, a town several miles to the West of Winchcombe, led us to this beauty nestling gently in a small strip of grass, a few inches either way and it would have hit tarmac / concrete.

We think this is where it landed, and a car while parking on the verge had driven over it, breaking it into three pieces and transporting a small bit to the drive where it was crushed into the mark we initially noticed.

Lovely! Did you recover any crumbs from the mashed bit? I see you arleady found the dust.

Wow all around. Very serendipitous that the tire crushed a bit so that you could find it nearby. Very happy for you!

Epic! Was a magic few weeks spent searching down there. Chris well deserves his finds after spending not just weeks but weeks and weeks and weeks searching! 😊😊

Great find...if only I'd stayed on with Chris for another 10 minutes...but then we might have walked past it :-)

Good to see that the spirit of Sherlock Holmes is still alive in GB. Great story, Luther, of discovering a beautiful specimen of this super-rare meteorite. Hopefully you stopped washing hands after that event.
