2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

263 grams. 92 x 64 x 53 mm.   Desert Glass

Found in the area of the red marker below.

Matthias writes:
Highly unusual, multicolored and translucent gem-quality specimen.

This piece shows a wide color-range from white over yellow, brown, green to nearly black, with some red accents. Translucent in all colors. Very rich plastic form, with formal elements like drops, cavities etc. It evokes forms of flowing water. Seen from one perspective it reminds definitely of Hokusai's famous woodcut 'The great Wave' (Photo 8), unfortunately not visible on the pics as clear as desired. But believe me: you see the dark, black-greenish abyss of the agitated sea, the towering of the wave, the breaking into the splendid white foam.

Beautiful specimen with a substantial size. I have never seen such a varied coloration in any specimen. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Nice comparison to Hokusai never thought about it like that but it is refreshingly similar
