2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

Adzhi-Bogdo (stone) is a partly unequilibrated LL3-6 chondrite, S2, polymict breccia.

From Metbase 7.2 (2005):

A mass of 910g was found, and several more pieces later; the locality was first given as Khobdo, 48°0'N, 91°43'E, L.G.Kvasha, Meteoritika, 1954, 11, p.81; 1956, 14, p.14, and later corrected, G.G.Vorobyev and O.Namnandorzh, Meteoritika, 1958, 16, p.134, M.H.Hey, Cat. Met., 1966, p.7. Classification, Met. Bull. 74, Meteoritics, 1993, 28, p.147.

The corrected coordinates (Hey 1966) are 44°50’N, 95°10’E, which is approx. 440 km apart from the first given coordinates 48°0'N, 91°43'E …

Olivine Fa mean 28.2 mol % Pyroxene Fs mean 22.0 mol % Fe total 20.11 weight %

Received as a gift from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in autumn 1996 after my long-time friend Sergey Vassiliev and I took a geology scientist and his son plus two drivers on a two-week trip through Mongolia (south direction from Ulaanbaatar and back) at our expense. Driving through the country without an invitation and without a hired driver was not possible in 1996. The idea of this two-week trip was to find meteorites, but we did not succeed at that time. Anyway, the trip through Mongolia was fun and we had great experiences.

The journey is the destination. And you obviously succeed with a fragment slice of a very rare fall.
