2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

7 x 9 cm.   L5

TKW 798 grams. Fall not observed. Found 6 February 1999, Mohave County, AZ, USA.

Twink writes:
I found this on a Gold Basin expedition with Jim Kriegh. Right after we returned to Tucson he cut the back side off and my son took the photos.

I was super exhausted on my way back to Jim’s SUV and when I saw this I picked it up. I thought it was just a black rock at first, since all of the Gold Basins were that orange-brown color. I put it against the magnet on my pick and it fell off, so I figured not attracted - not a meteorite, and almost threw it away. Then I looked at it again, HELD it against magnet and realized that the reason it had fallen to the ground the first time was that it was SO HEAVY. Luckily I then realized it was probably a different meteorite from a newer fall since it was still dark.
