After a business trip to Germany earlier this year (Feb. 2016), Tomasz Jakubowski and I met up to go Moldavite hunting in the Czech Republic and to visit various museums together like the Vienna Museum of Natural History and the Moldavite Museum. Neither one of us had any experience in hunting Moldavites and it did not take long for us to figure out that we needed expert advice.

We were very lucky that at a moment's notice, our mutual FB friend, Milan Prchal, was not only available but excited to take us out himself to hunt. Milan has been hunting Moldavites since 1965 and has an encyclopedic knowledge about them. His generosity was overwhelming and both Tomasz and I felt really blessed to have met Milan in person and be able to extend our friendship with Milan from just FB to a personal one. I would have to say that his friendship was the best find of our trip. Due to Milan's knowledge of specific areas to hunt, I was lucky enough to find a few pieces, as did Tomasz.

During our car trips with Milan, I discussed with him my appreciation for Moldavite carvings and how I had acquired some pieces of naturally tumbled Moldavite from Jim Coffman. When it comes to Moldavites, I think it is safe to say that Milan knows just about everyone, including the master carvers in the area. So, after I returned home, I sent these various pieces of Moldavite to Milan to get carved for me. What I received back blew me away. The quality and detail of the carvings was far more than I expected, especially after seeing the poorly executed yet very expensive pieces on various internet sites. This particular dragon carving is freestanding as shown. It is fully carved on one side and slightly carved on the other. The detail is amazing and the piece can only be truly appreciated when seen in person.
