2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

12.2 grams.   L5

TKW 110 kg. Observed fall 21 August 1991, Tahoua, Niger.

Bernd writes:
Special features of Mount Tazerzait:
1. unshocked (S1)

2. high porosity

3. similar to Baszkowka (L5): textures of both meteorites are very similar

4. both chondrites have identical Fa/Fs contents

5. pores contain stubby crystals of olivine, pyroxene, troilite, and FeNi

6. Mt. Tazerzait is more dense than Baszkowka

7. Baszkowka and Mt. Tazerzait were likely ejected from the same source region of their parent body.
