83.1 gram corner piece, cut from the main mass. L4
TKW 7 kg. Observed fall 28 August 1925, Niederosterreich, Austria.
Herbert writes:
After a large fireball was widely observed on August 28, 1925, a 5 kg meteorite was found on the next day near Lanzenkirchen, about 50 km south of Vienna, Austria. A second individual, with a mass of 2 kg, was found on October 7, about 2.5 km northeast of the first. The meteoites show a patchy fusion crust and a beautifully, brecciated interior that is shock darkened in some areas.
The specimen shown here in images #1 and #2 is a 83.1 g corner piece, cut from the main mass. Image #3 shows the main mass in the Natural History Museum in Vienna.

Congrats, Herbert! Lanzemkirchen is seldom seen in private collections! According to H. Michel, Lanzenkirchen is rich in FeNi and troilite and has plenty of chondrules. |
