Jack writes:
On the evening of Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 9:22 local time, witnesses in Southern Arizona gazed in awe as a meteoric fireball traversed the sky at cosmic velocity. Jack Schrader, after gathering numerous reports from eye witnesses in the area, triangulated the collected data and recovered the first stone, a 155.6 gram individual at 6:20 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2009, just 44 hours 58 minutes after the occurrence of the fall. On Friday, June 26, Jack’s father, Chuck Schrader, recovered the second stone of the fall, a 99.4 gram individual at 10:39 am.
These first two meteorites are pictured on the cover of the second edition (in color) of "The Whetstone Mountains Monograph" which was completed by the author, Dave Gheesling, just prior to his passing. Dave is silhouetted on the dust cover of the monograph on the right with Jack Schrader following behind on the left. Dust cover photo credit of Sean Murray. |
