Find/Fall Anniversary |
805.5 gram full slice, 350 x 158 x 5 mm, parallel cut, polished on one side. H6
TKW 166 kg. Observed fall 19 March 1884, Jawa Timur, Indonesia.
jnmczurich writes:
Djati-Pengolin, H6 chondrite, black, Fa 20 mole%, Fe(total) 26.1%.
A stone of about 166 kg fell after detonation and appearance of a Fireball. The mass fell into the river Alastoeva, near Djati-Pengolin, Indonesia, and was fortunately recovered shortly after fall.
The slice looks like a cross section of an oriented mass. The strange looking inclusion on the lower right side is about 18 mm wide and 16 mm high. A metal vein is crossing the left side of the slice with 250 mm length.

Lovely slice! Is the tiny red fleck in the chondrule, photo #5, a flake of carborundum? I've seen them in CCs before. |

Great piece. My hat is off to who all went into the river to recover the 166 kg stone. |
