H melt breccia
Roberto writes:
These are pictures of the main mass of the first witnessed fall of 2021. It is currently being classified by Dr. Laurence Garvie at ASU. It was submitted yesterday as an H melt breccia, one of only 27 meteorites with this classification, only 7 of which are non-Antarctic meteorites.
The fall has a total known weight of 6,599g. It fell on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, in a small village called Asto Mulyo in the sub-district of Punggur. Slices of this material bear a slight resemblance to Portales Valley. Punggur is the second hammer fall to hit the island in six months (the previous one being Kolang in August 2020).
Villagers dunked one of the hammer stones in water and then distributed the water believing it to have healing properties.

That's a very impressive specimen! And I could definitely see the slight resemblance to PV in the slices you showed on the hangout. |
