So glad I was able to attend Ensisheim show a few years ago with our younger son and meet meteorite folks I only knew from internet!! And a bonus, we drove to visit the Paulis in Germany. |

A thunderous explosion rent the wintry skies over the upper Rhineland a few minutes before noon on November 7, 1492. Outside the walled city of Ensisheim in Alsace, a boy watched dumbfounded as a huge stone hurtled out of the sky and plunged into a field nearby. He was the sole witness to the earliest ob*served meteorite fall in the West from which pieces are still preserved. (MARVIN U.B. (1992) The meteorite of Ensisheim: 1492 to 1992 (Meteoritics 27-1, 1992, 28-72, p. 29). |
