39.4 gram oriented indivudial.   Iron, ungrouped

TKW 75.3 kg. Fall not observed. Found 2001 in Northwest Africa.

Matthias writes:
Flight oriented individual.

Aerodynamic perfect shape resembling an arrowhead (or torpedo, or cruise missile ^^). Border edge ending in a little fin. At the top, originally in flight direction of the meteor: utmost fine flowlines. Distinct regmaglypts which make the piece appear as twisted in itself.

In "as found condition", with brown-velvety patina (rarely to be seen in the case of later finds).

This piece was found before 2005 (when I acquired it). The enthusiasm regarding this Taza resonates in the description the dealer/collector dedicated to it and which I like:

Of all the individual meteorites in my collection, this one is THE most aerodynamic oriented iron I’ve ever had. On top of that it is the highly unusual TAZA iron meteorite from Morocco! The initial classification of Taza appeared to be ataxite, but chemical differences make it rather peculiar. It is a plessitic octahedrite (OPL), because the iron and germanium content percentages do not seem to match the parameters of any currently classified irons. When research finalizes that, the nomenclature committee will undoubtedly give Taza it's own classification. This specimen weighs over 39 grams, measures about 34mm across, and is in as-found condition. It addition to being so aerodynamic - it also has VERY well defined thumbprints. And to top it off there are even a few FLOW LINES on the pointed end. The images below show the great specimen from all angles. This is a GREAT specimen.

Beautiful piece! I do see the resemblance to an arrow, but Photos 4 and 5 make me think of a fossilized toe (which is not surprising since I also collect fossils!). Thanks for sharing.

That's right, John. Love the icy crystalls inside. But don't want to look inside that one.

Never met a Taza that wasn't "rather peculiar", inside or out. Nice one Matthias, thank you.
