What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section in cross polarized light.   Diogenite

TKW 40.3 kg. Observed fall 6 July 1924 in Colorado.

Anne writes:
Fell in front of the church of Johnstown, Colorado, just as a funeral was getting underway, the gravediggers were able to dig out the fragments very quickly.

Very nice thin section, but a mistake in the text. The funeral stone actually fell in front of the church in Elwell, not Johnstown which is located about a mile to the east. The stone was 6.8 kg and was buried to a depth of 20 inches.

Ah, look at all these colorful pyroxenes and don't forget to also take a look at the interference color chart (Michel-L*vy)! Definitely worth a look!
