2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

15.21 grams.   CV3-an

TKW 290 grams. Fall not observed. Purchased November 2020 from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Hanno writes:
Our new NWA 13784 CV3-an was finally approved some days ago. It took a while for the final result.

Before cutting we thought it might be a Rumuruti. After cutting we thought it is maybe a mix of carbonaceous and type 3 Chondrite.

Classification was not easy because the data did not match to a CV3 or to a CK3. Then we thought it could be a C3 ungr. Karen Ziegler helped with the O-isotopes.

So, we are happy with the result of a nice fresh looking CV3-an.

Yeah, Mike - Starry Night, I guess. It inspired Don McLean to his wonderful song with same title, dedicated to the painter.

Reminds me of some Van Gogh artwork I have seen. Nice piece.

What a wonderful fresh looking cv-chondritical texture! Looks a bit different to me, compared with Allende, NWA 3118 f.i. Seemingly no CAIs. Very nice material, Hanno, congrats!
