88 grams.   Fake

John Humphries pointed this out on his FaceBook page on April 11. I took a look today and selected this "Kenyan pallasite olive" beauty, offered by pingping5188, as an example. Although this one looks like a Christmas fruit cake (photo 3) there are a wide variety available.

It struck me as a fake Shirokovsky (MPOD 12/9/11), which itself is a well known fake!

I queried Ebay for sold "Olives" and it came back with 942 sales dating from 22 Jan 2022. Prices realized ranged from 1 cent to several hundred dollars. A quick scan of the list suggests an average of about $50 so this fake has sucked over 45K out of the legitimate meteorite market.

As John pointed out in his April 11 post there are many Chinese sellers profiting from this, although it could be one person with lots of Ebay handles.

So now, meteoritelover from China: Why do you sell fakes? This is fraud. Furthermore you f**** the whole collectors community. Shame on you and your Chinese "friends" who flood the market with crap.

Have any fake *Widmanst*tten patterned* irons shown up yet? That will be a sad day. These *pallasites* look like the composites they make for kitchen and bath countertops

If I would fake pallasites I would fake Krasnojarsk not Sericho trash.

I report every fake I see on Ebay and they don't do a thing about it. Meteorwrong is only trying to make people aware of the fakes, good on him. Ebay should be held to account but how can that be done. I will continue to report every fake even though you will be totally ignored by Ebay!

Someone calling themselves 'meteorwrongs' seems to have bought up a lot of the recent pieces and now has them listed as FAKE CHINA METEORWRONG at $700 a piece. Unsurprisingly they don't seem to have sold any yet...

One important point: this is NOT a piece of Shirokovsky. It is an entirely fabricated pseudo-pallasite made of bits and pieces of Sericho by Chinese Ebay sellers.

A very famous pseudometeorite. Listed in Russia.
