5.872 kg/   Iron, IAB-MG

TKW 9.5 tons. Fall not observed. Found 1958, Guangxi, China.

Michael writes:
Nantan individuals are very susceptible to oxidation, and often will show large areas of rust if not treated properly and constantly. This meteorite may have fallen in 1516 in the area of Nantan, in the Guangxi Province in China. However, most of this fall was collected in 1958 by the Chinese Government. The total found mass is approximately 9.5 tons, and is classified as a IAB-MG Octahedrite. The surface is glossy due to the rust treatment.
