1975 grams.   Iron, IVA

TKW 26 metric tons. Fall not observed. Found 1836 in Great Namaqualand, Namibia. The fragments of the meteorite in the strewn field are dispersed over an elliptical area 275 km long and 100 km wide.

Anne writes:
Complete individual, 21cm x 15cm, maximum thickness: about 2cm.

Bought during the 2014 Denver Mineral Show. I call it the Pancake. Some people joked that a dinosaur must have stepped on it to make so flat.

Thank you! Bernd: my guess was something like peeled off a bigger mass during entry thru the atmosphere. But that is just a guess. And if anyone has a better, more dignified name for that meteorite, please let me know.

Cool! Never before have I seen such a flat(tened) Gibeon specimen and I'm wondering whether it was spalled off during armospheric passage or upon hitting the ground or whether it is due to weathering processes. Anyway, very interesting!

Well no matter what caused this It is an excellent Gibeon Anne. The reglamyphs are abundant and even show up on the edges, Great Gibeon that will be a cool conservation piece around the table :) Cheers.
