4.74 kg.   LL6

TKW 8.35 kg. Fall not observed. Found 1999, Morocco.

Jürgen/jnmczurich writes:
Taouz 002 was found 1999, and classified and published just before the NWA meteorite numbering started. So it is one of the very last pre-NWA meteorites. Three additional small individuals (38 g, 29 g, 22 g, the larger two of them can be seen on one picture) were found little later, close to the place were the 8.35 kg mass was found.

Taouz 002 is a brecciated LL6 chondrite and almost free of chondrules or chondrule fragments. It is a very soft chondrite, very easy to polish. Free metal is very rare and only a strong magnet sligthly attracts the chondrite. However, little metal or a combination of metal with troilite is or was present due to the partly brownish appearence of the chondrite.

The picture of the thin section (meteorite size is 26x20 mm) was taken under cross-polarized light. The picture is not modified by photoshop program.

The crust shows some kind of "desert lacquer" and thermal contraction cracking. Mainmass (4740 g) with great display character. It is one of my favorite desert samples and has been in my collection since July 2000.

Thanks J*rgen, I really like the crust and matrix! The contraction cracking is particularly nice as well. Cheers
