77 gram 'puzzle' meteorite. Found in New South Wales, Australia.   unclassified

This mass is not related to Cockburn L6. It is believed to be the main mass of a fresher find!

Found by Don McColl. Its the largest stone of a shower of meteorites found in NSW. The closest town is Cockburn on the South Australian/ New South Wales boarder. Over 30 stones have been found and most are around the 20g size or less according to information provided to me.

The interior shows nickel, iron, and troilite inclusions in a light colored silicate matrix. The crust on many specimens is dark and well preserved. Overall it is much more recent in its arrival to Earth than the official Cockburn L6.

Note: the Cockburn L6 was not found in 1946, as the met bull states. In fact the first samples from 1946 now at the University of Adelaide are H chondrite paired to this shower........Long story.

This 77g mass was part of the Werner Shroer Collection, IMCA 2101, before it briefly entered my collection in 2015 (IMCA 8013). I then sold it to another collector within Australia. I miss this little guy but he's gone to a good home.
