The place was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire at the time when the meteorite fell (more specificly, of the kingdom Hungary), that's why the main mass ended up in Vienna.

Sorry David, but Ukraine is much older than that. If you study History you will find it mentioned in the high Middle Ages, and even the city of Kyiv is much older than Moscow, having been founded in the 5th century and well known as a trading center along the Dnieper River from the 9th century. However being next to a big bully, they have been repeatedly invaded and occupied by Russia. And so as Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and a few others.

Did not know Ukraine existed in 1866. My grandparents came from Kiev in the 1880*s and were Russian
