43.5 gram transitional part-slice. Pallasite, PMG
TKW 323.3 kg. Fall not observed. Found June 1967, in Magadanskaya oblast', Russia.
Paul writes:
This specimen has beautiful green crystals and wonderful detail in the etch. The polished side is about as close to a mirror as you can get - check out the reflection of the scale cube!
Seymchan was originally classified as "Iron" in 1968. In 2000, it was reclassified as "Iron IIE". It was reclassified again in 2006 as "Iron-ung". The MetBul currently recommends "Pallasite, PMG". Some Seymchan specimens are purely iron, some are typical pallasites with olivine mixed throughout the iron matrix, and some are "transitional", displaying aspects of both, as this specimen does.

You can see the quality of this etched piece and it makes a stunning slice.

This slice of Seymchan is the "best of both worlds," Paul. The olivine on the left side of the slice appears to be nice inclusions. And the etch and polish on the right side; WOW! |
