Paul writes:
Heritage Auctions recently conducted the "Meteorites from the Geoff Notkin Collection" sale which featured quite a few Meteorite Men™ items. I was inspired to post this MetMen collection so I spent an afternoon diving into my Borg-like cataloging system to pull all of these items together.

Way back (2010, 2011) when the Meteorite Men™ TV series was bursting onto the scene, all of the meteorite afficionados in the Tucson area gathered at the Sky Bar to view the latest episode. It was the coolest thing ever!

At the 2011 Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, Michael Blood held his usual dealers-only meteorite auction. There was much anticipation as the auction worked its way to Lot 93, entered by Geoff Notkin of the Meteorite Men™. Bidding was furious for the elsewhere-unobtainable MetMen memorabilia, 4 genuine meteorite specimens from the TV show, and, most importantly, Geoff's episode-used pick.

Thanks to a bit too much whiskey and a gentle prod from my beautiful wife, Wendy, the lot went to me. The money went to the IMCA. Right after the hammer dropped the crowd broke into applause, which they do from time to time at auctions. It has always puzzled me. Perhaps it's to dispel the nervous energy built up by the bidding frenzy. Maybe some think the buyer paid far too much for the offering (not the case here!). As I recall, there was a short break after this lot and the clapping could have been about finally being able to go to the bar or visit the restroom 😜

The SkyBar! I remember it well. It got so noisy that we left and want somewhere else for quiet conversation and pizza! :-))
