Check out the Google map. The semicircle on the right margin is part of the Toyota Arizona Proving Ground but I have no idea what the triangle is to the right of the marker.
The dry water course is the lower part of the Hassayampa river. A local legend purports that anyone who drinks from the river can never again tell the truth. As an anonymous poet wrote:
Those who drink its waters bright-
Red man, white man, boor or knight,
Girls or women, boys or men-
Never tell the truth again
It is said that so many politicians visit the head-waters in Prescott, Arizona, that the lower half of the river is permanently dry.

Hi Paul,
I love the Chondrule rich matrix and the metal scattered throughout!
The Triangle looks like an old Runway with the Airport Tank Dam below it? but probably a proving ground for vehicles now?

The triangle is an auxiliary airfield that was used for training during WWII. It is now abandoned. I have hiked all over this area but never found any Hassayampa, just many black magnetic rocks (iron ore) and a few specks of gold. Watch out for the Cholla Cacti and of course politicians. Both are pretty prickly! At least you know what the cacti are about. |
