What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section in plain and cross-polarized light.   Martian (shergottite)

TKW 7 kg. Observed fall July 18, 2011, in southern Morocco.

Anne writes:
Nice swirl of glass visible in direct light, with fine crystal growth visible in polarized light, at the edge.

What a beautiful specimen! You are so right Anne, it's all a matter of scale. Even reality.

Thank You! and you are all very welcome. And yes it does look like a tiny galaxy with a black hole in the center. It is all a matter of scale ;-)

That swirl reminds me of a spiral galaxy or a black hole (as depicted in movies). Nice. :)

Love the swirling glass...wonder if the small specks are Martian soil related?
