1025 grams. 91 x 85 x 40 mm.   Iron, ungrouped

TKW 1600 kg. Fall not observed. Found 19 February 2009, East Uweinat Desert, Egypt.

Matthias writes:
Massive form like a mountain, with clearly visible manifestations of melting processes on the surface. There seems to be consensus about the fact that except for the breathtakingly beautiful main mass (83 kg, Egyptian Geological Museum, Cairo) all Gebels seem to be shrapnels. Taking this piece into consideration, one might be tempted to think of an intermediate state between shrapnel and individual. At the backside is a round inclusion, laid open by erosion.

This strange, regularly formed inclusion is really the question, Bernd. I have no idea, never seen something like that before. Should be harder than the "surrounding" iron, or better: more resistant against erosion.

I would venture, no "noise" at all. No one there to hear it!

Gebel Kamil...the reptile skinned meteorite. This is a nice one.

This oval inclusion and its sharp edges is quite interesting! Any idea what it could be?

Imagine the noise it made falling?
