Northwest Africa 5000
The Mona Lisa of Moon Rocks

483.89 grams. 202mm x 202mm x 8mm.   Lunar

TKW 11.53 kg. Fall not observed. Found 2007 in Morocco.

Greg writes:
This slice of NWA 5000 is one of only six complete slices in existence and was mounted and framed to showcase this Cosmic Masterpiece. It will be unveiled at the 2013 Ensisheim and Sainte Marie aux Mines shows in France.

The obverse of the custom frame (see the Pic1 link below) displays the slice just as nicely as the front. It is difficult to capture the true nature of this meteorite in a mere photo - it must be seen in person to truly appreciate the contrasts between the sharp black and white hues.

Beautiful slice! In my opinion NWA 5000 is the best lunar meteorit. Great three-dimensional effect.

You're right, Greg - a lot more awesome in person, than in a picture! (I got to see the main mass while on loan at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto a couple of years ago. I went twice!) NWA 5000 is my favourite Lunar!
