This meteorite fell over the small towns of Livingston and Mifflin, Wisconsin, on April 14th, 2010. Meteorite hunters from all over the country descended on the small towns in a matter of days and were able to recover around 70 stones according to Cressy (2016).
It was a relatively small fall with only about 3.58kg of material found. This fall was a big deal for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was a witnessed fall that was caught on camera and doppler radar. It also caught the attention of many of the major news outlets. Hunters that were there report that they had never experienced a more thoroughly documented hunt. It also happened while Geoff Notkin and Steve Arnold were filming the series, Meteorite Men. In episode 5 of Meteorite Men's 2nd season, Geoff and Steve go off to hunt Mifflin. Around halfway through the episode, Geoff and Steve are shown finding a 42.5g oriented individual. That individual is the stone from which this endcut was taken. It was discovered on the Liddicoat farm and I was able to purchase it directly from Steve Arnold. He prefers to stones featured on the show as "TV stars". This is definitely one of them! |
