What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section between crossed polarizers.   CR2

TKW 2.45 kg. Fall not observed. Found 2007, Morocco.

Don't miss the zoomable hi-res picture on Flicker.

Solar writes:
The NWA 5028 meteorite makes a stunningly beautiful thin section mosaic. The large CAIs are especially nice to view. Many nice chondrules of various types.

Question: What causes some CAIs to appear almost invisible in cross polarized light, while others are incredibly brilliant?

Mosaic taken with a Nikon D810 and composed of 58 individual images.
