79 gram slice.   Pallasite, PMG

TKW 499.5 kg. Fall not observed. Found May 2008, in Jawa Tengah, Indonesia.

Paul writes:
This slice has a fairly thick coating of some sort of glop that has yellowed over the years. I'm afraid if I remove it the specimen will disintegrate into a heap of little pieces.

Andi, there is very little iron left in Jepara. My thin-section maker realized that when he started cutting thin-sections for me, he had no problem at all, it was soft material, mostly rust. The epoxy is what keeps it from falling apart.

The iron under the coationg is rather oxidized. With no treatment, it will be destroyed completely. I*d suggest decoating and chemical stabilizing as soon as possible.

Ugly pallasite, but great in thin-sections!

Largest and best slice I have seen of this Pallasite Paul. I would definitely leave it the way it is.
