2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

43 gram end-cut, 55 x 35 mm.   L5

TKW 3.58 kg. Observed fall April 14, 2010, in Iowa County, Wisconsin, USA.


 


Frank writes:
The photos are of a 43 gram end cut of the largest recovered stone (332 grams). The specimen measures 5.5 x 3.5 cm.

Photo 1 shows the fresh black crust with some apparent incipient lipping.

Photo 2 is the cut surface and a beautiful interior showing its characteristic brecciated texture of light colored clasts in a gray matrix.

Photo 3 is an enlarged view of the cut face showing both the matrix and clasts to be composed of abundant small chondrules. Common FeNi metal (white) is present throughout.

 4/15/2021 6:00:01 AM		 This pass over where i was a teacher was witnessed by many of the students living there and was used as a so called "Teachable moment" It evolved into n entire unit in the Science sections i was teaching which in turn-the next year became a separate advanced class under the heading of Astrobiology which covered all the science and more that the general survey of Science was to cover.
