  Lunar (norite)

TKW 1146 grams. Fall not observed. Purchased December 2021.

Ziyao writes:
As of today, this is the only approved meteorite classified as Lunar (norite).

From the MetBul:

Physical characteristics: The material has an overall beige color with clear glassy maskelynite grains and some thin, dark glassy shock veinlets visible. The very fresh fusion crust is consistent with this meteorite being a very recent fall.

Classification: Lunar (unbrecciated norite). Although much more heavily shocked than most others, this specimen has textural and mineralogical counterparts especially among the returned magnesian plutonic igneous samples from the Apollo 14,16 and 17 landed lunar missions (e.g.,Papike et al.,1998).

Matthias-- I can figure the temp's. & air flow for the (as you say) "lapping" effect; can you refer me to some references to further define this occurrence, thank you. And of course - Ziyao

Pic #5 is especially spectacular. Any comment on the thick black veins? And that crystalline matrice - wow.

Very interesting piece, Ziyao. At first glimpse my guess would have been Martian, with its Maskelynite and the internal veins. Wonderful fresh crust with a characteriastical "lapping" structure. Very beautiful.
