What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section.   Low Ti-basalt group

Anthony writes:
A medium-grained, cumulate textured, olivine-rich basalt (a troctolite). It belongs to the low Ti-basalt group (believed to be part of a group of younger basalts that erupted in the maria).

Sample 12005 contains large calcic pyroxene oikocrysts that enclose an earlier-formed assemblage of olivines and spinels (Chromite) poikolitically enclosed in plagioclase feldspar. This rock was collected by Charles Conrad and Alan Bean from the Oceanus Procellerum during the Apollo 12 mission in November of 1969.

Gorgeous! It arrived as part of a bolide that struck, albeit gently, the Earth, so can it be considered a meteorite?

Beautiful, colorful olivines from the Oceanus Procellarum - Mare Insularum(between Lansberg and Frau Mauro). Dhofar 287 (LUN-B) and NWA 032 (LUN-B) are similar in composition to Apollo 12 mare basalts.
