This is the new key slice of my collection: The Steinbach Meteorite. Steinbach was first found in 1724. Filled with radiant silicate inclusions, Steinbach is classified as an anomalous iron - it is a rare meteorite with the scientific designation IVA-an. The Meteorite Magazine issues of August 2002 and February 2003 show the former slice (92.5 grams) as cover picture. The slice has an interesting provenance: The former slice (92.5 grams) was part of the collection of The Natural History Museum (the former British Museum of Natural History) and was auctioned by the Macovich Collection at Bonham's in 2007. After the sale at Bonham's the former piece was cut into three more slices. And my slice is the middle one. It has a maximum height of 50.8 mm, a width of 47.7 mm and a thickness of 2.5 mm. The weight is 20.193 grams. Mirko Graul (Germany) took the three fantastic photos (Steinbach - backlit; Steinbach - normal; Steinbach - detail with nice green enstatite inclusion) for me.
