What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section between crossed polarizers.   Martian (basaltic breccia)

TKW 36.6 grams. Fall not observed. Found 2017.

Solar writes:
What a fascinating meteorite! It shares many of the same characteristics as the NWA 8171 thin section image. In the thin section of NWA 11220 posted here, readers can explore some eerily “alien” features which seem unique to this particular class of Martian meteorites. The large inclusion on the left side of the thin section contains fascinating little globular specks. What are they? Additional clasts contain shapes and features which pose numerous questions, such as what kind of “natural” processes could have formed them? Enjoy!

Thanks! I am also curious as to what chemical process forms the parallel lines in the large clast at the top of the thin section. It reminds me of the absorption lines in a spectra.

Great pictures as usual, so glad you like that TS. As for the globular specks, sorry, but I have not received a response yet. I'll let you know.
