What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Home made thin section.

Dave writes:
The making of the thin section is covered in a five page article I submitted to the May 2010 edition of METEORITE magazine (Vol. 16, No. 2). Basically, I cut a 1mm slice from a larger piece, glued it to a glass slide and ground it down to about 30 microns on a 600 and 1000 grit diamond lap.

In going back through my thin section pics I do believe this one is of a chondrule.

D'accord, Jean-Michel ... if that is a chondrule, you are probably right! I thought it was a look at this uNWA's matrix.

Personally I think it's an chondrite with pretty porphyritic olivine and pyroxene chondrule, nice job, congratulations !!!

Hi Dave, your thin section photo of this uNWA shows triple junctions so my guess is it is something achondritic - maybe an ACAP or an AWIN. Thank you for sharing with us!
