What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?    
Thin section in cross-polarized light.   Martian (nakhlite)

TKW 456 grams. Fall not observed. Purchased September 2001 in Algeria or Morocco.

Beautiful augites showing simple twinning while some other crystals display a striated pattern (above center, for example). NWA 998 contains ankerite, the iron-bearing equivalent of dolomite. Thanks for sharing with the "community"!
