166.3 grams. 99 x 91 x 3 mm.   Iron, IIIAB

TKW 142 kg. Fall not observed. Found in 1973 Chubut Province, Argentina.

jnmczurich writes:
El Sampal is a beautiful iron meteorite, displaying a medium Widmanstätten structure of straight, but short (L/W ~12) kamazite lamellae with a width of 0.95 mm.

The close-up pictures are 5.5 x 8 mm. One picture shows the atmospheric flight heat affected rim, called alpha-2 rim. El Sampal is a pretty stable and fresh iron meteorite. Like it very much…

Three different phosphate minerals have been found in El Sampal: beusite, graftonite, and galileiite.

I believe that to be one of the most beautiful well defined widmanstatten patterns I've seen. Thanks for sharing that stunning piece!!
