Sweet li'l fragment Anne! Jesper, we don't really know, yet, to my knowledge when the horse-tails formed. You can add to your list an impact at Earth entry... but, if I gambled, I'd bet on a horsetail producing impact when Vesta was young and still cooling over 4.5 billion years ago. (Benzerara et. al. ca. 2000, Barrat ca. 2000-2010, and Haba et. al. 2019).

Jesper...the logic would seem to point to the biggest mass related to the material, so I would pick answer #1...that it likely happened on Vesta.

I am glad you like that tiny Tatahouine. And I am sorry Jesper, but I do not have answers to your questions. Most of all I wanted you, and others, to see the difference between a shattercone and slickensides.

Great looking diogenite, thanks Anne. When do you think the scatter cone formed? 1. Earlier impact on Vesta before the meteorite left the asteriod 2. At the impact that sent the meteorite flying your way 3. Later impact in space before hitting Earth

As Tatahouine isn't really famous for hosting flowlines at its surface : - ) this is indeed a fine example for a meteorite giving shape to a shatter cone. Great, Anne.
