What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
93.56 grams.   Iron, ungrouped

TKW 2 kg. Fall not observed. Found 1999, possibly near Morocco/Algeria Border.

Bill writes:
As a pristine (W0) example, NWA 176 is an ungrouped iron meteorite with silicate inclusions purchased in Morocco in 1999. The specimen weight is 96.56 grams of a TKW of 2 kg. Thin-section photomicrographs 2 and 3 are with uncrossed and crossed polarizers respectively. The photomicrograph in photo 4 illustrates the various silicates in non-preferred crystallographic orientations, crossed polarizers with a quarter wave retardation plate.

I acquired this meteorite from Jeff Cintron in 2002. At that time all credit transactions were being handled by someone in Denver. When problems arose with a CA bank Jeff suggested I call the Denver number he gave me. A lady with a French accent spoke, and to shorten the long story, Anne Black have spoken of archeology, meteorites, etc. When last I spoke to Jeff, he was leaving the meteorite business for health reasons. At that time he still had the main mass of NWA 176. Anne also had a slice available last year.

NWA 176 is a unique meteorite that was purchased/owned and sold by Geoff Cintron of Island Meteorites (Long Island, NY) in the early 2000's. I believe he has been out the meteorite mainstream for over 10 years. Others on the List know of him also.
