2021 Fall Date Project

The MPOD Caretakers want to present meteorite falls on their fall dates. For example, Sikhote Aline on 12 February.

This Project will not dip into the MPOD archives so the Caretakers will appreciate anything you can contribute.

To reserve a date just let us know. Thank you in advance :)

164 grams.   Unclassified

Steve writes:
The unclassified NWA meteorite shown in Photos 1 through 8 is probably a eucrite, but it’s too nice to cut, so it won’t be classified. This 164 gram piece is distinguished by a lot of impact melt, with Photos 9 and 10 offering 3D images illustrating the depth of some of the features. (I find it difficult to photograph pieces with glossy black fusion crust and/or lots of melt, so I apologize for some of the liberties I took with exposure trying to bring out more of the subtle details.)

Note from the MPOD Webmaster on 3-D Viewing:
I cannot fuse the stereo-pair images as presented. They are too large for my aged eyeballs to bring together. If you have the same problem, try this:
1) Click on the picture to view the full-resolution photo.

2) Click the "Smaller" button 10-15 times to shrink the picture to the point where you can fuse the images.

3) Hold the mouse over the "Bigger" button, fuse the pictures, and click the mouse while keeping the images fused to see how large you can go.

Very Nice. I would simply like to suggest an XRF scan if it's an Impact Breccia. The lack of weathering may suggest a nearby Impact Crater? Just a suggestion from my own learned experience. I mistook the melting for FCrust, only to later learn and discover a previously unknown Impact Crater!

Great presentation! I found the "cross your eyes" viewing to work very well with this stereo pair, as contrasted with "stare straight thru to a point beyond". Quite an amazing rock! How many times have we told wannabe meteorite-finders, "If it has a lot of little holes, it can't be a meteorite. "

For anyone who is used to parallel 3D viewing, just save and print the image at 3 1/2x5 and snip the left image off and place it to the right side of the other one. It makes an impressive 3D view with holes where they should be instead of mounds.

This one really has a story to tell, manifold in itself.

Very interesting! Liked the 3d. My first glance and I saw the 3d effect, then couldn't ever see it again!
