  L5

TKW 4.63 kg. Fall not observed. Found 15 January 2016, Khorasan, Iran.

Timur writes:
A rare L5 polymict breccia with H7 and L5 clasts. The meteorite was found in the desert of Iran by Mr. Zakharchuk and Mr. Kryachko on January 15, 2016. The search was made on foot over three days. 14 meteorite fragments were found in an area of about 1 square kilometer.

The weight of the largest fragment is about 900 grams. The total mass of the meteorite is 4630 grams. All fragments retain the fusion crust.

The meteorite was found near the town of Tabas. Tabas was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale on the night of September 16 to September 17, 1978. More than half the inhabitants of the county (from 15 to 22 thousand people) were killed.

The meteorite will be distributed for study, in the form of transparent polished sections.
