What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
  CR2

TKW 5 kg. Fall not observed. Purchased 2001, Zagora, Morocco.

Bill writes:
Thin section between crossed polarizers and a first order gypsum retardation plate. The “wreath with bow” center is metal. A missing portion of the TS sample (vertical stripe) allows the glass slide with mounting material to show the first order 539 nm retardation color of the gypsum plate.

Image 2 reveals the metal imaged with raking reflected unpolarized light.
