NWA 11961 is classified as a C3-ungrouped, but this isn’t your run of the mill C3-ungrouped! NWA 11961 is jam-packed with chondrules (many of them armored chondrules). At first glance, this meteorite may look like a CR, but it is definitely not a CR. According to the metbul writeup, "oxygen isotopic compositions for this unequilibrated chondrite plot in the same sub-TFL region as for carbonaceous chondrites, but clearly not on the trends for CR, CV, CK, CO or CM chondrites". It really is a one-of-a-kind carbonaceous chondrite!

This meteorite has a TKW of just 324g and I partnered with a buddy to buy all that was available (~165g) from the former main mass holder. It has been the subject of much research and will likely continue to be the subject of future research. This slice has been polished on one side.
