8.3 gram individual.   H5

TKW 50 kg. Observed fall 15 December 1978 about 10 km north of the village of Nuevo Mercurio, Zacatecas, Mexico.

Bernd writes:
This is a very special Nuevo Mercurio - at least to me. It is a gift from Dorothy Norton in recognition of my contribution to her late husband O.R. Norton's Encyclopedia of Meteorites (Appendix H: Summary of Meteorites by Classification, pp. 331-340).

I received this wonderful gift from her on October 27, 2017, at the Munich Mineral Show. It is exactly the specimen pictured on page 165 of O.R. Norton's Rocks From Space (Editions 1994 and 1998). I am very proud to own this little Nuevo Mercurio from O.R. Norton's personal collection!

What a wonderful gift to you and so typically thoughtful of Dorothy to present it to you!

That is an awesome stone to have Bernd...and I see flow lines and it looks to be oriented too. A very special piece.

The terrestrial history of a meteorite is as interesting as its origin. This precious little one shows that clearly. Can imagine that it holds a place of honor in your collection, Bernd.
