What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?

Win or lose!

In the last 13 years I have made thousands of thin sections. With those, like this one, my heart still pounds. I'm very careful, awed, and even a little scared when making them! The risk is always very high that the sample will be damaged or something can tear off, especially with such huge chondrules. You can completely destroy or lose the sample that was just beautiful!

Today, I won and can present you this 15 mm mega chondrule - a wonderful polysomatic olivine barred chondrule. A real highlight for me!

Wow, what a chondrule! Looks more like a pyroxene chondrule to me. If the interference colors are ok, olivines would be much more colorful.
