Martian (shergottite)
TKW 137 grams. Fall not observed. Purchased 2016 at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
Suzanne writes:
This is a close up of the recently classified Martian meteorite NWA 10728. It is a Shergottite with shock melt veins and vesicles. In this photo the difference between the melt and original material is quite clear; the original material is a grey-green color, while the melted material is black. Also visible within the pockets of melt are vesicles.

awesome meteorite... impact melts continue to dominate variations in all the stone meteorite classes, and this is another good example. |
