Zsolt writes:
One of the World latest witnessed fall meteorites in 2015, working name
"Tissint 2" chondrite.
Nomads reported a sonic boom and bright fireball in the afternoon sky on 28 July 2015 close to city of Tissint, Morocco. Many hunters have tried to find the meteorite pieces.
The first found pieces were reported on 02 August 2015. The estimated TKW is around 1 kg or more with smaller pieces.
The status of meteorite as any case of a fresh fallen meteorite is not official yet. But its under classification in many labs. The meteorite probably is an H chondrite, maybe with 4-5 petrological type. Recently the hunters named it "Tissint 2" or "Tissint X". Dont confuse this with the famous Tissint Martian meteorite! So, we are waiting for the first studies and geochemical descriptions of this chondrite.
I have made three Thin Sections of "Tissint 2" and there I identified nice sized chondrules (range 0,5-2 mm), high metal content (as in H chondrites) and light/darker-gray matrix.
So, the images:
1 and 2 are a 53.45 gram fresh chondrite with broken surface and very fresh frothy Fusion Crust. We can identify at minmimum two lithological surfaces with brecciated zones.
3 is in X-polarized and reflected Thin Section images (made it myself with 1 micron fine polish :)
4 is a composite image showing the full thin section in X-pol and normal light with a nice barred chondrule. There is an armored barred olivine chondrule with nice metal-flecked rim shown in the reflected image.
